The ITB Civil Engineering Expo (ICEE) 2023, an annual event organized by the Civil Engineering Student Association (HMS ITB) of Institut Teknologi Bandung, aims to extend student learning beyond the traditional classroom setting. Recognizing that students need to understand the career paths awaiting them after graduation, whether at the undergraduate or postgraduate level, HMS ITB conceived this exhibition. ICEE 2023 was designed as a hybrid event, featuring both a direct, in-person exhibition and a virtual component.

The live expo took place at the Multipurpose Hall CRCS ITB on Thursday, January 26, 2023. Concurrently, a virtual exhibition was made openly accessible from January 23 to February 19, 2023, via a dedicated link. Several companies participated as exhibitors, showcasing their work, materials, projects, innovations, and various beneficial information.

The live expo commenced with opening remarks from Romi Radiansyah, the Head of the ICEE 2023 Organizing Committee, who thanked the committee for their efforts. He expressed hope that the event would benefit students, particularly Civil Engineering students, HMS ITB members, alumni, and the wider community. Rafi Fadhila Wiyadi, the Head of HMS ITB, also shared his aspirations for ICEE 2023, hoping it would broaden the understanding of HMS ITB members regarding the civil engineering world.

Dr. Eri Susanto Hariyadi, S.T., M.T., Head of the ITB Civil Engineering Undergraduate Study Program, delivered the next address. He appreciated the committee for bringing back the annual ICEE event in an offline format after a two-year hiatus, likening it to the G20 slogan, "Recover Together, Recover Stronger." Dr. Eri emphasized that such company exhibitions support the university's Quality Performance Index (QPI) by producing graduates who understand the world beyond academia. He hoped students would gain new knowledge from the 2-3 day ICEE 2023 event, officially opening it with a symbolic gong strike.

Attendees at the CRCS ITB, including students and the general public, were presented with booths from companies such as PT Wijaya Karya Beton Tbk, PT Delta Systech Indonesia, PT Jasa Marga Tbk, Skha Consulting, and Meraki Asa. Each company presented its unique image, attracting visitors. Generally, companies provided information about their profiles, developed product innovations, and recruitment details. While most participating companies were in the infrastructure sector, students from other academic backgrounds could still gain new insights. Visitors could directly ask questions to company representatives at their booths, and company sessions offered more detailed information.

Benefits of the Virtual Exhibition

The inclusion of a virtual exhibition alongside the live event for ICEE 2023 offered several distinct advantages:

  1. Extended Access and Duration: The virtual exhibition was accessible for a significantly longer period (January 23 to February 19, 2023) compared to the single-day live expo (January 26, 2023). This extended timeframe allowed a broader audience to engage with the content at their convenience, accommodating various schedules and commitments.

  2. Wider Reach and Accessibility: By being "openly accessible" online, the virtual exhibition transcended geographical limitations. This enabled individuals who could not physically attend the live expo at CRCS ITB—due to distance, logistical constraints, or other reasons—to still participate and benefit from the information provided by the exhibitors.

  3. Complementary Information Hub: The virtual platform served as a comprehensive digital repository for the "works, materials, projects, innovations, and various useful information" presented by the companies. This allowed visitors to revisit content, delve deeper into specific areas, and access details that might have been missed during the live event or company sessions.

  4. Enhanced Engagement and Learning Opportunities: By offering a persistent online presence, the virtual exhibition supported the event's core objective of helping students understand future job prospects and gain new knowledge. It provided an ongoing resource for learning about company profiles, product innovations, and recruitment information, reinforcing the insights gained from the live event and extending the educational impact.
